Corn funds added 28,000 new longs and covered 27,000 shorts in the week ending September 1, pushing managed money to net long 431,062. Soybeans added 38,000 new longs to reach net long 241,183, and wheat flipped to net long 14,654 on 21,000 new longs and 8,000 shorts covered. All three grain markets are now net long. Sugar added 37,000 new longs for the fourth straight week of 36,000 plus net change, now net long 243,467. Live cattle funds added 9,000 new shorts, pulling the net long to 47,914.
Nasdaq leveraged funds covered 23,000 shorts, narrowing the net short to 10,559 from over 84,000 three weeks ago. T note funds added 34,000 new longs, partially offset by 9,000 new shorts on the other side. Nat gas reversed course and liquidated 11,000 longs while adding 7,000 new shorts, widening the net short back to 89,000. Gold funds liquidated 11,000 longs, the first meaningful reduction after weeks of steady building. Crude oil added 15,000 net through new longs and short covering equally, pushing the net above 119,000.
