Nat gas funds liquidated 46,000 longs and added 21,000 new shorts in the week ending September 29, widening the net short to 132,849 on a 67,000 contract swing. T note leveraged funds added 174,000 new shorts and 88,000 new longs, netting out to 86,000 additional shorts and pushing the position back to short 2,061,670. Corn liquidated 39,000 longs and soybeans liquidated 22,000, continuing the grain reduction that started two weeks ago. Crude oil liquidated 13,000 longs and added 7,000 new shorts, pulling the net to 123,000.
Nat gas went from short 66,000 to short 133,000 in one week, reversing the covering that had pulled the position in from over 100,000. The T note move was two sided: both longs and shorts entered in size, but shorts entered at nearly double the rate. Corn has now given back about 50,000 from the 431,000 peak and soybeans about 24,000 from 266,000. Lean hogs added 8,000 new shorts to push the net short to 44,000. Gold and silver both reduced, with gold liquidating 5,000 longs and silver adding 3,000 new shorts.
