528,000 cattle this week, down 4.7% from a year ago. Year to date slaughter is running 8.3% below last year’s pace at 15.4 million head versus 16.7 million through the same week in 2025. Hog slaughter came in at 2.268 million, down 2.4% from a year ago and the second straight week drifting lower.
The cattle year over year gap narrowed a bit this week at 26,000 head, but the YTD deficit keeps compounding. The hog side has now flipped to running consistently below last year after spending most of June above it. Two and a half percent below year ago is the widest gap on the hog table in weeks.
Cattle on Feed coming out at 2:00pm CST. See you then!
